Itinerary

Ditch your guidebook with glossy picture-perfect images and come out with us and take in Copenhagen in high resolution with a native Copenhagener by your side on this short, immersive and fairytale-dusted experience of Copenhagen’s biggest sights.

So if you want to visit those unmissable Copenhagen sights and have a fun and interesting dose of insights from a local perspective, then this tour is for you! After all, these are the stories that have helped to shape the people who live in this gorgeous city, so why not learn directly from them?

The experience will kick off at Toldboden, one of Copenhagen’s most historical places where you can grab a cup of coffee at your own expense (just remember to get to the meeting point 10 minutes before the meeting time). From here, we’ll take you through some of the older parts of Copenhagen’s historical city centre through some of Copenhagen’s most famous and important sites.

At the beginning of the tour, your guide will enthrall you with tales about Copenhagen and Denmark’s rise and demise throughout its more than 1,000-year-long history. As you get to tune in, we’ll be heading through the park that commemorates the heroes of the 2nd World War before encountering the Gefion fountain that shows where Copenhagen, or at least the land where it’s located, is said to have originated (hint: It’s something we Danes consider a very dark place!). This will take us a little bit further out, where you’ll be able to take in some of Copenhagen’s magical fairytale dust as you say hi to The Little Mermaid and hear why everything is not at all what it seems with her.

With our magical fairytale levels at a maximum, we’ll be getting to the real-life fairytale of the Danish royalty. Hear secret insider stories about the Royal Guards and awe-inspiring tales about the royals at Amalienborg — the Royal Palace — that only those who have been in the guard know about. Here you’ll even get to play a little game about where the current head of the royal family, Daisy, lives.

Next, we’ll be walking through the picturesque harbor canal New Harbor (or Nyhavn as we call it in Copenhagen), where we’ll be taking in the view from a special point of view that for sure will make all your social media followers or your friends or family back home jealous. Please don’t hesitate to ask your guide in assisting capturing that picture-perfect image of this iconic image from this good-looking city, while you get to hear about the harbor’s colorful and somewhat charming history.

With an appetite for more, you’ll head across one of Copenhagen’s most famous squares before stretching your neck all the way back to admire the spire of one of Copenhagen’s oldest churches.

Here, we will end the tour at a beautiful square, which is located right next to the main pedestrian street right in the heart of Copenhagen. So put on your best walking shoes, bring your camera, and get ready for a lot of fun, Copenhagen-style! Before you leave the tour through, don’t forget to ask your guide for tips on what else to see, do, and eat in our awesome city. We would be happy to help!

Guest Story

Fairytales, Royals, and Real Life: Copenhagen in 2-2.5 Hours Flat

If you think two hours isn’t enough to truly get to know a city, think again. I joined the Copenhagen Sights in a Nutshelltour hoping to get a quick overview before exploring on my own, but what I walked away with was so much more than directions and photos. I left with a feeling for the place. And yes — a head full of stories that I’ve already retold at least three times since.

We started near the waterfront, where our guide welcomed us with the relaxed energy of someone who really knows and loves their city. No stiff intros here — just good conversation, a few local tips right off the bat, and the first of many unexpected facts about Copenhagen’s history. From the moment we walked past the World War II resistance memorial and into the park, I could tell this wouldn’t be a dry sightseeing run-through. This was Copenhagen told by someone who’d lived it.

One of the first surprises? The tale of the Gefion Fountain and how the Danish island of Zealand supposedly came to be. Let’s just say it involves a goddess, a plough, and what our guide affectionately called “the Swedish shade.” From there we strolled out to see the Little Mermaid — and even though I’d read she was smaller than expected, she still took me by surprise. What I didn’t expect were the stories behind her — both the real-life author’s heartbreak and the darker twist the statue quietly holds.

But it wasn’t all myths and melancholia. Things got brighter (and a bit more regal) as we reached Amalienborg Palace. Here, we paused to play a light-hearted game guessing which windows belonged to which royals, and got insider anecdotes about the Royal Guards — the kind of stuff only someone with a real connection to the tradition would know. Somehow, this huge formal palace ended up feeling… cosy? Or maybe that’s just what happens when you experience it through Danish eyes.

As we continued through Nyhavn, the harbor came alive with stories of sailors, booze, and historic charm. Our guide pointed out the best photo angle and happily helped everyone capture that perfect Copenhagen shot — the kind that feels effortless but always needs a local to know just where to stand.

We ended at a quiet square just off the pedestrian street — right back in the middle of modern Copenhagen life, but with new eyes to see it. What I loved was how everything tied together. From fairytales to history to everyday Danish life, nothing felt rushed or scripted. We covered so much, but it never felt like a checklist. More like a conversation that unfolded naturally, with a friend who just happens to be a brilliant storyteller.

Before parting, our guide shared personalized tips for the rest of our visit — where to eat, which neighborhoods to explore, even how to spot which ice cream stands are actually worth it. It was thoughtful, fun, and full of heart. Exactly like the tour itself.

So yes, you can see Copenhagen in a nutshell on a walking tour like this.
