If you want to understand Denmark, you need to understand hygge. Take a peek into Copenhagen’s local life and find your own happy place on the hygge and happiness tour.
Quick Details
Join us for the full Copenhagen package on this fairytale and hygge-filled tour of ‘the greatest hits of Copenhagen’. It’s a great starting point for your Danish experience, where you’ll have a whole day of Copenhagen fun! Over the course of seven hours, your local guide will take you under their knowledgeable wings and introduce you to the city’s many iconic sights, hidden gems, mouthwatering sweets, and royal delights – all while letting you in on all the secrets of Danish life; it just doesn’t get more Danish than that.
This walking tour combines our extremely popular Hygge & Happiness tour with an afternoon jam-packed with Copenhagen’s most iconic sites and tastes.
Your local guide is a bona fide Copenhagener who is super excited to share their knowledge of Danish culture with you, as well as local historical secrets that you won’t find in any guidebooks! And because our tours are for small groups only, your guide has plenty of time to answer any questions you may have.
Your tour takes you through the oldest parts of the city, where you experience hidden gems in the form of cobblestone-filled streets, timber-framed houses, and green refuges of calm amongst the urban sprawl.
This Copenhagen walking tour is not just about seeing the city’s greatest hits but tasting them too! So, get ready to engage all of your senses as we sample some Danish delights, from world-renowned pastries to delicious chocolate and coffee.
We also stop to enjoy a spot of lunch from one of our favourite street food vendors before continuing our exploration of the city.
Next up, we jump on the bus, just like the locals do, which takes us to enjoy some of Copenhagen’s famous historical sites. A stunning walk on the banks of the Game of Thrones-worthy Citadel rewards you with amazing views of the city. As we go, your guide enthralls you with tales about Copenhagen (and Denmark’s) rise and demise throughout history.
Hear secret insider stories about the Royal Guards at Amalienborg — the Royal Palace — that only those who have been in the guard know about.
There is ample time for snapping some stunning images (your guide can help with this), that are sure to make your social media followers jealous.
The historical highlights continue with the Rosenborg and Christiansborg palaces, the latter of which is better known as the Parliament building. Here, we stop to tell you about former kings with delusions of grandeur and mental insanity, as well as the inappropriate love triangles they engaged in… We also talk a little about the Danish welfare system, which provides a very high degree of trust, which in turn has helped us earn the title as some of the happiest people in the world.
And of course, no Copenhagen sightseeing tour is complete without saying hello to the Little Mermaid and finding out why everything is not as it seems with her.
So put on your best walking shoes, bring your camera, and get ready for a lot of fun, Copenhagen-style! Before you go, don’t forget to ask your guide for tips on what else to see, do, and eat in our awesome city.
Inclusions: Local English-speaking guide, pastry, chocolate tasting, coffee/tea/lemonade, a bus ticket, royal delights, and lots of Danish hygge.

Mrs. Karesha V. from The United States of America traveled on 13 May 2023:
This was a fantastic tour by Terese. She was very knowledgeable about Copenhagen history, government, culture, food, etc. I learned a great deal from her and she did a wonderful job of engaging the entire group while still allowing for folks to ask individual questions, take breaks for photos etc. I did the day long tour (~9am-~4pm) and I would highly recommend it (vs just the half day).
Ms. Gira D. from Italy traveled on 28 Apr. 2023:
I was on a short trip in Copenhagen and wanted to hit the main tourist attractions in one go. This tour was fantastic and our guide Theresa was wonderful at sharing knowledge about the history and general culture of Denmark. I definitely recommend this experience —just make sure you can handle lots of walking!
Mrs. Tiffany R. from The United States of America traveled on 17 Apr. 2023:
Had a wonderful experience on the full day tour guided by Teresa today. It was a great introduction to the city and culture of Copenhagen. Teresa shared bits of Copenhagen’s history and lifestyle + answered all our questions. She also recommended other neighborhoods and spaces to visit for the rest of the trip. Would totally recommend this!
Ms. Yoonjie from South Korea traveled on 11 Apr. 2023:
I had a great time with Christian and the rest of the group. It was a nice mixture of Danish history and fun facts about Copenhagen. Appreciated the breaks for pastries and drinks.
Mr. Michael G. from Australia traveled on 4 Apr. 2023:
Absolutely a great time. learned so much my brain was heavier by the time we got back. I would recommend to anyone trying to get an overview of the main points of the downtown area.
Mr. Richard J. from The United Kingdom traveled on 22 Mar. 2023:
Couldn’t be happier with the experience. Our amazing local guide, Theresa, was extremely knowledgeably and gregarious. Highly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity as you will gain irreplaceable insights into the city.

It was a wonderful tour around Copenhagen! I was happy that we had a lot of stops to have some food ⭐️ almost 7 hours went really fast and the whole atmosphere was super nice. Kristian was a great guide, and I will definitely recommend this tour to my friends!
Mrs. Chanelle W. from The United States of America traveled on 28 Jan. 2023:
Wonderful walking tour! Highly recommend especially for first time visitors to Copenhagen. Great storytelling, history, and culture knowledge. We had fun! In fact we booked the all day tour. Thought it might be a bit tiring but to me and my 15 year old son, it was fine. We covered lots of areas in the center of Copenhagen that we probably would have missed if we wandered solo. Our guide was super! His love and pride for the city is infectious. We love Copenhagen! Thank you. We will be back!
Ms. Melanie O. from Canada traveled on 19 Jan. 2023:
I would give 10 stars if I could. This tour started our visit on a great note, providing a welcoming introduction to the city and useful tips for the remainder of our trip. Christian was the best guide and is a really fun person to spend the day with. He is extremely knowledgeable, open, friendly, and fun. He enjoys his job and it shows. The tour is well organized, but not rigid. You will have a great time on a half-day trip, but if you’re up for it, the full-day trip is well worth it and gives you a fantastic overview of the city. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to hit the main sites of Copenhagen, learn about the culture and history, and get some awesome recommendations for your trip!
Mr. Robert J. from The United States of America traveled on 4 Jan. 2023:

One of the best city tours I’ve been on. Kristian was extremely knowledgeable about the city and candid about his experiences. He was also a lot of fun to chat with. I would highly recommend this tour to others.
Mr. Terry J. from Germany traveled on 19 Dec. 2022:
This was my first trip to Copenhagen with very little knowledge about the city. Axel was amazing, he’s a cool young guy with a lot of knowledge. Thank you for a great day exploring Copenhagen.
Mrs. Milla P. from Belgium traveled on 9 Dec. 2022:
If you’re even staying for a da in Copenhagen, and you don’t know anything about the city, I definitely recommend taking this tour! you get a general idea of the history and culture of Copenhagen and Denmark. The tour guide was also very nice and would talk about the places we visited in a storyline like way with was pleased to listen too. I would recommend getting the afternoon tour and not only the morning tour! you get a lot of history in the afternoon tour with I liked very much.
Ms. Alice S. from Canada traveled on 3 Dec. 2022:
This is a great way to see everything in one day and to get an idea for what you want to see in depth later. We really enjoyed it! We wanted to learn about the city and we did!
Mr. Anthony M. from The United States of America traveled on 28 Nov. 2022:
I was in Copenhagen over the weekend and booked a full day tour with Mie and friends – very glad I did. Lots and lots of walking in the rain and wind (wear weather appropriate shoes and clothes) BUT very worth it as I learned so much about Danish history through the various kings and leaders, and also the daily life of the Danish people. Highly recommend the full day tour if you have time!
Ms. Jirka S. from The United Kingdom traveled on 15 Nov. 2022:
Very nice tour with local guide! He did a great job telling us everything we needed to know ! Would definitely recommend this tour.
Mr. Kyle M. from The United States of America traveled on 3 Nov. 2022:
Well worth our time! Amalie was personable, easy to understand, knowledgeable, and everything she had to share was fun and interesting. She gave us a great selection of tid bits on Danish history, values, lifestyles, and hawt goss. Was a long tour, but not exhausting thanks to the languid pacing with lots of breaks for free snacks and hot drinks. She had great answers to my many questions.
Agreed with other posters that it felt like a stroll with friends. 🙂
Ms. Christabel G. from Mexico traveled on 25 Oct. 2022:
Joining this experience gave me insight on what I can do for the rest of my time in Copenhagen, it also helped that the group size was small. Jam was able to accommodate me even though I was the only participant due to scheduling.
Ms. Heidi H. from Germany traveled on 16 Oct. 2022:
Mie was a great guide! Felt like I was walking a friend vs a structured tour. All the snacks were awesome too! Would highly recommend this tour.
Ms. Dobrinka J. from Russia traveled on 9 Oct. 2022:
I did this tour on my first day in Copenhagen and it was a great introduction to the city and Denmark’s history. Our host was very knowledgeable and friendly, also with a nice sense of humor. My favorite part were the little hygge streets, so colorful and cozy!
Mr. Christian W. from Canada traveled on 2 Oct. 2022:
Gave us a very good cross view of the city and its culture. Was a very warm and down to earth experience even if the weather wasn’t so welcoming at times. But….real part of life here.
Mr. Andrew J. from the United Kingdom traveled on 28 Sep. 2022:
Wonderful experience! Don’t be intimidated by the “full day” option – it’s paced so very well! Our guide was warm and welcoming and really made the journey wonderful.
Ms. Devon T. from United States of America traveled on 14 Sep. 2022:
Take this tour in Copenhagen! Kristian was a wonderful host. He grew up in Denmark and is passionate about Copenhagen. The tour felt very personal and he conveyed his own experiences throughout the day. Trust me, walking around Copenhagen without a tour won’t do the trick for your first time in town. He knows the spots and you get MANY treats throughout the day.
Mr. Michael J. from Australia traveled on 5 Sep. 2022:
I intentionally went on this experience at the beginning of my trip to Copenhagen. As a result I felt like I could better navigate the city. I knew which places I would want to go to for further enjoyment. And I found out which places I would really not need to revisit. The tour was excellent for the experience itself; and, it saved me time and money throughout my time in Copenhagen. The full-day tour was well-worth it. I especially loved being sung the birthday song that ends with “With chocolate and cakes!” Thanks for the highly-personalized tour. The connection made me feel connected to Copenhagen.
Mr. Eddie R. from Canada traveled on 2 Sep. 2022:
Great tour with delicious snacks throughout. Covers a lot of Danish history and culture so a useful overview of the city for your first day in Copenhagen!
Ms. Eleanor J. from The United States of America traveled on 29 Aug. 2022:
12/10, loved it!!! Jam is so knowledgeable about pretty much everything, even off the wall questions. So sweet, interesting, informative, and Hygglie!!! And he gave the best suggestions for souvenirs, music, gifts, food, experiences, everything under the sun. I wish this was the first thing I had done in Copenhagen and based the entirety of the rest of my trip around just his recommendations. 1000% will be amazing and set you up for the rest of your trip, no matter how long you are there.
Ms. Karolyn S. from Poland traveled on 25 Aug. 2022:
This was a fantastic experience, with all due credit to our guide Jam. He is warm, witty and an authentic human being. I felt like I was visiting a friend who was taking me to all the cool local spots. His knowledge of Denmark history and take on current life in Copenhagen is captivating. You get the real feel of Copenhagan. Super fun!
Ms. Emma N. from The United Kingdom traveled on 22 Aug. 2022:
This tour was priceless. If you want to go beyond the basic touristy stuff, this is for you. The history Mie provided gave context that made visiting historical sites a lot more interesting. Mie also made great suggestions for the rest of my trip and helped us find interesting souvenirs. The bakery that you visit has amazing pastries… I’d travel back from Canada just to have another frøsnapper out of their window. Overall – wonderful, not to be missed!
Mrs. Jamie T. from Canada traveled on 20 Aug. 2022:
Had a great day with Jakob and the other guests. The snacks and treats were lovely, and each felt very connected to being in Copenhagen. Jakob shared meaningful anecdotes along the way, and was so personable that 3 people added on the afternoon section to stay with us for the full day. Similarly, Jakob shared that he was leading the drinks tour the following day, so a few of us have added that to our agenda as well!! The tour was just as described: a laid back walk through charming parts of Copenhagen while considering what both hygge and happiness really are. A great way to see the city and make a deeper connection to one’s own travel.
Mr. Joanne W. from The United States of America traveled on 17 Aug. 2022:
Jacob embodied hygge. He went into specific details whilst at the same time conveying an honesty and authentic passion for his city and country. From this experience, I felt a sense of Denmark: understated, relaxed confidence that if you take time, life will be better.
Ms. Erin T. from The United States of America traveled on 13 Aug. 2022:
This was the perfect way to spend my first day in Copenhagen. Jacob showed us some amazing sights, but the best part was hearing anecdotes about life in Denmark, tasting delicious local food and experiencing some genuine hygge! As a solo traveler, I walked away with a great sense of the city and the culture that I could never have gotten on my own.
Mr. Andrew P. from The United States of America traveled on 28 Jul. 2022:
A brilliant way to experience Copenhagen through the eyes of a Copenhagen native . Our guide Jens was fantastic! Relaxed and very funny yet incredibly knowledgeable about all things Copenhagen. He gave us a great insight into what makes Copenhagen such a wonderful place to live. He also spiced our tour up with tasty local treats and informative and amusing stories. The day flew by and by day’s end we had covered a lot of ground. The pace is relaxed so it’s not taxing for those who don’t walk much. 10 out of 10 from us!
Ms. Shiela G. from United Arab Emirates traveled on 19 Jul. 2022:
This was an awesome tour! I learned a lot about the hygge culture, heard some funny stories about the Danish past monarchies, and gained a sense of appreciation for all the sights that we visited. Our guide, Jens, was super knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely recommend this experience 🙂
Mr. Paolo A. from Mexico traveled on 9 Jul. 2022:
It was a very enjoyable experience, not only a “tour”, one feels like a part of the city and sees it no from the point of view of tourist. It really is Hyggelig and I left with the desire to walk through these streets for weeks.
Mr. Jeff K. from United States of America traveled on 4 Jul. 2022:
Great introduction to the city. Would highly recommend doing this on the first day or two of your trip if you have never been to be Copenhagen!
Mrs. Marianna N. from United States of America traveled on 28 Jun. 2022:
This is a whole day of experience to capture the city’s atmosphere. We really enjoyed it having been taken to places we wouldn’t have necessarily gone on our own. Sandra was really nice, had deep knowledge of the place and culture. We really felt we started to understand local people’s everyday life and their thinking way on happiness in the present moment.
Mrs. Monica H. from the United Kingdom traveled on 21 Jun. 2022:
This was WONDERFUL for people looking for a basic foundation of Copenhagen. I’ve been before but wanted my family to learn more and I ended up learning so many new things. He gave amazing food recs and the treats provided on the tour were INSANE. I’d bring any first timer on this tour in a heartbeat.
Ms. Angel T. from Hong Kong traveled on 14 Jun. 2022:
Great walking tour to get to know the city! Jeppe was great at helping us to understand the Danish style of life, of hygge, and happiness. A lot of the stopping points on the tour are pretty typical tourist spots, but going around with a local brings different perspectives. Highly recommend!
Mrs. Alicia K. from United States of America traveled on 6 Jun. 2022:
Great tour! Lots of walking, tasty snacks, super kind guide (Jamshed)! Had every opportunity to ask questions and any and all questions were answered. Great recommendations for places to go afterwards! Def recommend!
Ms. Somsom from Ukraine traveled on 27 May. 2022:
It was the best memory in Denmark for me. I had no idea about Denmark and Copenhagen but the host explained all the interesting history and the treats of sweets were awesome!! It took 6 and half hour walk but I didn’t even feel tired because everything was worth to visit and especially the last spot Nyhavn was the most beautiful place ever.
Mrs. Miriam G. from United States of America traveled on 15 May. 2022:
Had an amazing time with the group. The tour gave me a good understanding about Hygge and Denmark culture in general. Jeppe was always up to answer hour questions and gave great tips about the city. Take this tour im the beginning of your trip so you can use all recommendations they have. Wish everywhere had an experience like this.
Ms. Victoria C. from Australia traveled on 29 Apr. 2022:
It was a chill day which fits the vibe of the city. The tour was amazing and I had so much fun. We checked off the main sightseeing spot and also explored some hidden gems around the city. Do this tour! You won’t regret it!
Mr. Matt J. from Canada traveled on 19 Apr. 2022:
This was a day well spent. Pauline was a wonderful tour guide. She was knowledgeable and personable and it felt like a friend was showing us around the city. We did this tour at the beginning of our 2-week trip and we went back to several of the sites and businesses Pauline introduced us to during our stay in Copenhagen. We fell in love with Copenhagen in large part due to the wonderful orientation and introduction that Pauline provided.
Ms. Stacy J. from United States of America traveled on 12 Apr. 2022:
This was a wonderful way to see the city, learn about the culture and lifestyle, have fun and some tasty treats! Jam was fantastic! Lots of information and great stories. I am a solo traveler and met three other Americans on this trip. It was fun getting to share the experience together. Definitely worth doing this trip.
Mr. Kim S. from Singapore traveled on 3 Apr. 2022:
Fantastic way to see Copenhagen for the first time or the fifth time. Our guide Jam provided deep insights into and fun experiences of life in Copenhagen. I booked for the chocolate tasting (which was fabulous!), but got so much more. Highly recommend.
Mr. Andrew K. from United States of America traveled on 22 Mar. 2022:
This was my first trip to Copenhagen. We took the full day tour so we saw all the major sites in Central Copenhagen and got lots of good stories along the way. The guide was great and really friendly. I felt that by the time we are done I had a good sense of the layout of this city and a list of places to visit and restaurants to eat at. Walking tours are so much more intimate that the hop on/hop off experience and I highly recommend this one!
Mrs. Kelsey L. from United States of America traveled on 8 Mar. 2022:
Jacob was amazing! So knowledgeable, but it didn’t feel like a school field trip. It was fun, exciting, and engaging. 10/10 would recommend.
Mr. Amir K from Dubai traveled on 28 Feb. 2022:
Fantastic tour. If you are in for a day or if you are just starting your trip to Copenhagen, I recommend this highly. Jamshed was very knowledgeable and it’s nice to hear the perspectives of a local dane. I will definitely recommend this to all my friends that visit this fantastic city.
Ms. Maureen C. from Australia traveled on 18 Feb. 2022:
I truly recommend this activity. Jacob was our guide and he’s simply lovely… knowledgeable about Copenhagen and very good company. He makes what is really sightseeing as though it’s a real conversation. Excellent!
Mr. Hajar. from England traveled on 2 Feb. 2022:
Fantastic tour! It was excellent to hear about the city from a local and getting to taste Danish pastries, chocolates and street food! Comfortable walking pace and we saw so much! Definitely a hyggely experience!
Ms. Carissa O. from Australia traveled on 14 Jan. 2022:
I had a truly amazing day. Mie had wonderful stories to share. Nothing beats seeing Copenhagen through the eyes of a local. I would definitely do the tour again if I can.
Mrs. Bonnie N. from United States of America traveled on 22 Dec. 2021:
This was the perfect way to spend our 14 hour layover in Copenhagen. Although it was quite chilly outside, the tour was broken up into breaks with stops along the way. Overall the tour was well thought out and organized. Jeppe was an excellent tour guide! He was knowledgeable about landmarks and the history of the city and also, as an authentic local, he was able to answer any question thrown his way.
Mr. Rodney T. from England traveled on 17 Nov. 2021:
Our guide, Jamshed, was very friendly and knowledgeable and we had a full day walking and chatting about many different aspects of Copenhagen, including of course the famous “Hygge”. We visited several places off the usual tourist trail and enjoyed tasting some typical Danish food and drink. A day well spent and we would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn about the city, its culture and traditions.
Mr. Michael C. from England traveled on 29 Oct. 2021:
Great full day out with a small group on this tour. Our guide Jacob was so good – friendly and informative – and the day was fun, interesting and a great way to see Copenhagen’s main and hidden sights. Our group felt like old friends by the end. Highly recommended !
Mr. Ray P. from USA traveled on 26 Oct 2021:
We were recently in Copenhagen for the first time with friends and colleagues, and we had a fantastic time on this tour.
Mie met us at the hotel, led us on the Metro and Bus to our starting point, and then began regaling us with the tales of this gorgeous little city.
Her English skills were fantastic, her storytelling was compelling, and she brought us to some great sights and locations. She had a near-perfect mix of history, and first-person experiences to share with us. She even tried to help us pronounce Danish words, but we failed miserably 😉
I heartily recommend this tour, and this company. And, if you’re lucky enough to have Mie as your guide, you’ll have an excellent time.
Mr. Decker M. from USA traveled on 13 Oct 2021:
A group of 13 colleagues go away once a year for a weekend to bond. Historically we try and spend the Saturday getting to know the location we’re in, then the Sunday is free for whatever. There were obviously a number of tours to choose from but Copenhagen Urban Adventures sounded the best fit for our disparate group.
Our initial correspondence was encouraging, queries were dealt with quickly and in a friendly manner. We felt as though we could trust the company we were dealing with. Our requirements were a little bit fluid – final numbers weren’t known and several of out members have “out there” dietary requirements and as the tour included several “food stops” these had to be accommodated. Our requirements were taken on board and subsequently accommodated (as far as they could reasonably be).
Initial impressions of Mie were that she was outgoing and personable with a command of English that could put some native speakers to shame. She arranged to meet us in our hotel so that we didn’t have the extra stress of navigating the Metro solo into town (we were staying at Bella Sky on the outskirts). Using a variety of public transport we navigated to the start of our tour – some historic military buildings on the outskirt of the city. This was where Mie’s fun-filled personality was first given free-range as she explained what she wouldn’t take questions on – for perfectly sane reasons – even if some of the points were tongue-in-cheek. Much fun was had by our attempting to mangle Danish street sign names and the beginning of a series of running jokes which we all got to participate in was commenced.
There isn’t much point in talking about the geographical and urban spaces we explored. Suffice to say that we took in most of the obvious tourist attractions (along with speculation about the top three most disappointing tourist attractions in the world, at least one of which is in Copenhagen). Along the way we got to taste some awesome chocolate (several of our number were delighted to find the same store in the airport so they could stock up before their flight home), to drink coffee in a café just oozing hygge, to eat well from a great street food stand and to enjoy Royal Snacks. We learnt to drink modestly at a brown bar observing the Law of Jante and we learnt an amusing fact about Ikea toilet accessories, that even though it doesn’t stand up to close scrutiny (lakes Mie, lakes!) still had me laughing like a drain all afternoon.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with Mie and even though your guide can’t be guaranteed a reading of the reviews on this page show that a specific guide isn’t needed for a fun and enjoyable touring experience. In fact the experience was so enjoyable that several of us are talking about doing Urban Adventure tours in our own home towns!
Ms. Rachel C. from Australia traveled on 26 Aug 2021:
This tour is great if you have limited time in Copenhagen like we did. We only really had one day and wanted to see as much as we could and Jacob facilitated that so well! Learning about Hygge was interesting and seeing the main sights while also getting off the beaten track was great fun. We had enough time so Jacob actually took us to one of his favourite places as well. I wouldn’t have experienced that otherwise. Thanks for a great day Jacob!
